7. Ways to avoid overwhelm and save time
7:38
Let's just have a quick look at some ways to avoid overwhelm and to save time.
First of all I really suggest that you decide right now and you commit to this to how many posts you're going to create each week.
I've just said we're going to avoid overwhelm, I'm going to save time and here I am giving you something to do but actually this really works to help you feel calmer and less like you've just got that nagging feeling I should be posting.
I post every single day and that is quite onerous but I only give myself a short amount of time to do it in and because I've gone through some of this process and because I plan my post it makes it really quick.
And what I have noticed is and what lets me post or enables me to post every day is the fact I've created a habit.
I have told myself I'm doing this every day.
I feel like I am sort of accountable to myself, to my followers, and it's just something I do now without really thinking about it.
I just get on with it.
If someone told you before you started to brush your teeth that every single day you're going to brush your teeth for the rest of your life, you probably would have thought, oh no, that's just awful, that's far too much.
But we just do it.
We just don't even think about putting the toothpaste on the brush and getting on with it, and that's what you need to get into the habit of doing.
If you start to post or you decide you're going to post three times a week, then that means you're going to put that into your diary because it's on your to do list and you're going to start to think about it.
You possibly think about it the day before, you plan it out.
And then also you'll find that people start to expect you to do that.
And when you get the sense that people expect you to do it, that keeps you accountable and you want to do it.
And so it's a habit, it's not overwhelming.
How many times you post is entirely up to you.
More frequent does actually work better than once a week.
And bear in mind that everyone sees every post, so posting more frequently increases the chances of people seeing it.
So remember that if you have done the work we've gone through already about your business aims and targets, your process will feel less overwhelming because you're not doing this in a random way.
You have a sense of purpose.
It feels effective.
It feels much more worthwhile.
And if you're going to use the content pillars and starter topics and some of the ideas I'm about to give you, then you already will have content ideas.
If you've got content ideas, it's just a question then of writing some brief posts, adding an image.
Is not particularly emorous, it's getting the ideas that I think can be tricky.
And then once you've done this you can repeat what you've done, you can repeat at regular intervals, you can repeat the same post with a different photo, you can change the words slightly, you can use a different angle but on the same topic, it just becomes easier and easier.
And essentially the system is just four stages.
This is all you need to know.
You're planning, you've started to do that already.
You're going to capture some content either by scribbling ideas in your content bank, by taking photos when you're out and about.
You're going to decide when you're going to post what you're going to post and then you're going to amplify this by repurposing your posts, by adding some posts to your website, by using them in your mailings, by updating your Google business profile.
So as simple as that you plan, you capture your content, you decide when you're going to do this and then you amplify it in whichever way works for you, and when you do that it feels purposeful and much easier and you can save time many different ways.
One of the things that I found is that I was spending a lot of time each time I post trying to get the right image and looking for the images because I hadn't labeled any, I hadn't created any folders so I was doing this rummaging through my photo library every single time and then I realized that actually if I put some time aside, created a proper photo library, created some folders, labeled the things, then it just became much quicker after that once I'd invest that bit of time it then became quicker and having a content notebook and having that grid system makes it quicker anyway.
I don't do this always.
I quite often find it easier to post, each day.
That's just how I work, but I know many people that do sit down once a week and they batch their content.
So they write it all.
They obviously don't post it all at once.
They need to schedule it, but they are thinking it through, and they're writing it, and then it's just a cut and paste job.
If you do schedule, and you can use the free schedulers that are actually part of the platforms, or you can use other schedulers like buffer that let you, have additional functionality, but if you do schedule posts then make sure you still go into those posts every now and then to look at comments and to either like comments or comment back on people's comments because that helps to build engagement.
And then remember you're saving time by reusing your posts, recycling them, repurposing them by amplifying them and integrating them into your other marketing activities.
So when you write something, it's no longer just a social media post, it's much much more than that.
And just, to reassure you, don't worry about repeating yourself because it shows and you can always adapt things to make it slightly different.
Remember, not everyone sees every post that you post because they're not online, because they're not looking properly, because they're scrolling quickly, and also because the algorithm doesn't show everything to everyone.
So if you repeat yourself that's absolutely fine and of course many of us forget what we've seen and need to be reminded.
And then you also need to understand that marketing works through a frequency of what's known as opportunities to see.
And an opportunity to see an OTS is where you see or feel or an or, intimate a message, a promotional message.
So if I decide to go on holiday somewhere, I think that idea popped into my head.
But actually what will have happened is I may have seen someone mentioning their own holiday on social media.
The hairdresser could have told me about somewhere she's just being.
I could have been flicking through a magazine.
I didn't even read any of the articles, but I saw an ad.
I could have been, flicking through a novel maybe and it mentioned the setting.
I will have probably seen many mentions of that place.
It could have happened in the last week, it could have been over a period of time.
I once planned a holiday and went on a holiday to Zanzibar and my first idea for that to go to Zanzibar, I went when I was 40 and the idea of it started when I was eight and we used to sing a song at school about Zanzibar and I just like the name.
It can take a long time so if you repeat something then you're just doing what marketing needs you to do.
We used to say you needed to see something three times before you made a response, then it went up to five and now people say it's anywhere between eight and fifteen mentions.
So, we'll move on next to social media and some tips to make
