Dark Skies Friendly - Accommodation Providers

We are based in the North York Moors National Park or wider influence area* and will promote dark skies activities and events via our website, social media and other forms of marketing where possible. See northyorkmoors.org.uk/darkskies

We have joined the North York Moors Tourism Network and will promote the dark skies friendly initiative and other dark skies friendly businesses wherever possible/appropriate. This might include activity providers or venues.

Our guests/customers can enjoy dark skies activities or events at our premises or close by.

We are flexible with guests and allow late returns. Where possible we allow requests for late check out or breakfasts. This includes considering how they will interact with other guests i.e. returning late and making noise.

We provide guests with a check-list of what to bring to enjoy dark skies and stargazing events.

We provide equipment that guests can use to view the stars and to aid enjoyment – e.g. blankets, deck chairs, binoculars, red torches, telescopes etc. *Please provide photos.

We provide reference information: e.g. leaflets, star charts, books, websites, apps and places to stargaze across the North York Moors. *Please provide photos.

We are proactive in reducing light pollution on our property and in our community. We will support and promote the National Park’s dark skies friendly lighting initiatives. https://www.northyorkmoors.org.uk/darkskieslighting

Upon successful application we will display the dark skies friendly logo and North York Moors National Park partnership logo** on our website. This will include the relevant links to NYM web pages.

Providing packed meals or facilities for refreshments on return. These facilities can be chargeable.

Giving advice and tips (e.g. paint normal torches with red nail varnish).
