Dark Skies Friendly Activity Providers Checklist


Please answer the questions below. If you would like to provide more information about any of your responses, please use the box at the end of this form. This award is applicable to registered North York Moors Tourism Network businesses who will be listed (for free) on the North York Moors National Park website. By signing this document you are committing to meeting the essential criteria at all times. Once accepted you will be awarded “Cycling” status and issued with two logos and guidelines for use. Any business reported not to be complying with the essential criteria may be removed from the scheme and will be asked to remove all logos and references at their own cost.


Essential Criteria:

We are based in, or a significant amount of our business is conducted in the North York Moors National Park. We will promote dark skies activities and events via our website, social media and other forms of marketing where possible. See


We have joined the North York Moors Tourism Network and will promote the dark skies friendly initiative and other dark skies friendly businesses wherever possible/appropriate. This might include accommodation providers or venues.


We provide advice and information prior to events on how to prepare, what to bring etc and what plans are in place should skies not be clear.


We have all the relevant training, insurance and permissions in order to carry out our activities.


We are proactive in reducing light pollution on our property and in our community. We will support and promote the National Park’s dark skies friendly lighting initiatives.


In doing all of the above we will act as Dark Skies ambassadors for the North York Moors National Park.


Upon successful application we will display the dark skies friendly logo and North York Moors National Park partnership logo** on our website. This will include the relevant links to NYM web pages.


You may also wish to consider:

Providing information on additional sources of information for customers to further their knowledge: e.g. leaflets, star charts, books, websites, apps and places to stargaze across the North York Moors.


Sharing advice, hints and tips (e.g. paint normal torches with red nail varnish).
