SECTION THREE: 2020 Marketing Challenge - Review & Refresh

Task 1

If you’ve completed the previous tasks in detail you’ll now be ready to plan for the rest of 2020.

This can feel quite daunting as there may be so many different things you could do. To make it feel easier, I suggest you actually limit what you do. Use this short exercise as a template so you can just focus on the things you think matter most.

Task 2

Create a promotional calendar to execute your plan. Here are some simple tips to do so, using a wall chart or printed calendar sheets:

  • Block out key dates when you’re likely to be busy
  • Think about any special events in your area or anything significant you need to mark on your calendar
  • Work back from those dates to write in when you might need to promote those dates
  • Shade in dates when you expect to be less busy
  • Work back from those dates to think about when you need to do promotional activity to fill those business gaps
  • Consider when each message or theme will be most effective
  • When do you need to write it? take any pictures? Put all the details in the calendar.

This may take some time now, but you’ll thank me on all those mornings when you know you need to do something to move your marketing along and reach your targets but have run out of ideas!

Good luck!

Quick tips for success

Write your notes by hand, not by typing on your laptop or phone. There's something about scribbling & doodling that makes you more open-minded and creative so your ideas will be better. Don't sit at your desk or normal work place to do the tasks. It really helps if you can sit in a different chair with a different view.
