North Yorkshire devolution
You may have heard quite a bit about North Yorkshire devolution, a change in regional powers and funding. The government has said that to secure a devolution deal, there must be changes to the current two-tier local government system.
There are currently two options 'on the table', one from North Yorkshire County Council which would cover all of North Yorkshire (the current district and borough councils would go) and another 'East West" proposal which would replace the existing councils in North Yorkshire and York with two new authorities, one for the 'East' (Scarborough, Ryedale, York and Selby, and one for the 'West' (Richmondshire, Hambleton, Craven and Harrogate).
I was asked to circulate details to businesses of both these options so I requested a summary from both which explains the relevance of this development to the tourism industry. You can dowload and read these brief documents below:
