It's now three weeks since Gary Verity left Welcome to Yorkshire. We know quite a bit more now about the circumstances, Welcome to Yorkshire's finances, public sector contributions and the lack of accountability and transparency of the board. Over the last three weeks, the resulting issues have raised more and more questions.
Some local authorities have suspended their payments to Welcome to Yorkshire pending the conclusion of investigations. Chair of the Board Ron McMillan has refused to resign but remains a shadowy figure. Some board members have resigned. There seems to be very little leadership and businesses still await reassurance. It must be very hard for WTY staff - who's actually in charge?
Does anyone know the answers to any of these questions?
New Chief Executive?
Strategy and business plan?
Reform of the board?
Tourism businesses & members?
I've worked in tourism marketing for over 30 years, developing strategies & practical solutions for accommodation, attractions, activity providers, food & drink businesses. These are some of the tourism industry issues I'm concerned about. I'm writing here about Yorkshire but most of the issues are relevant elsewhere.
